MagicFrank's Lessons in Magic (Series). 3 DVDs. Color. Range 54-56 min. MagicFrank. 2003-2004. $19.99 ea. Includes: MagicFrank's Lesson in Magic: Believe in Magic! Believe in Yourself! Magic You Can Do! (ISBN 0-9716139-6-6); MagicFrank's Lesson in Magic: The Key to Card Magic (ISBN 0-9716139-4-X); MagicFrank's Lessons in Magic: Magic 4 Fun (ISBN 0-9716139-5-8).

Gr 1 Up-Each DVD in the series includes more than 20 tricks that are easy to prepare and learn. The trick is first presented and then followed by a thorough explanation. Pop-up reminders help to reinforce some instructions. Magic You Can Do! Explains different techniques often used by magicians, including "force" and other hand-eye manipulations. All of these tricks involve everyday objects such as coins and cards. The Key to Card Magic reveals many different card tricks. Magic 4 Fun presents a variety of tricks that are easy to follow using objects ranging from rubber bands to a banana. Each chapter of the DVD is dedicated to a single trick, making it easy to return for further practice. Although the series is appropriate for children, only one child appears as an assistant. The introduction to each DVD is slow and has poor sound and lighting. Occasionally a glare hinders viewers from clearly identifying a card that is being shown. This series would be useful for children interested in learning magic, librarians hoping to liven up a program with some tricks, or teachers wanting to reinforce some math skills that are presented during certain card tricks.-Jamie Macris, North Canton Public Library, OH
